Product Circle - 23 July 2024

Previous meeting July 9th

Special meeting to discuss next steps for Network 2.0.

See Network 2.0 Consolidation doc for background, links and resources

The steps through Product Refactor and into Network 2.0 are articulated in Product Model Refactor. Noting that Step 1 is not quite complete, but hopefully will be soon, our discussion was about whether the next step would be to 2. Create Linked Products OR to work on Product Tagging in the new Product Page.

The decision was made to do Product Tagging first (see mock-up below), because:

  • Ability to more easily manipulate large product lists in the product page is critical to retirement of Inventory function (and vastly simplified code that can result from this)
  • We hope that it might be possible to leverage the existing tag rules features with tagged ‘lists’ of products (needs to be checked / discussed with dev)
  • Once we have product tagging, the creation of the linked product is what will enable the 'price and stock override), which then enables full removal of Inventory and the big move to connected but linked/source-identified products moving through the system. But the tagging enables all the product list management simplicity and ease that many users currently use the Inventory page for

@Mario is going to spend a couple of hours revisiting and setting up some design assets for when we do this, so that we have some guidance from his brain. This will include rough thinking / mock-ups for:

  • do we need separate ‘field’ re. archive / new / active products to enable people to just easily manage these
  • how might actions on tagged lists of products work in ux - rough mock - e.g. I select my tagged list of products (say “Thursday”) and I create or add them to an order cycle from the product page, or set them to a particular Customer tag. There are lots of questions here (confusion / duplication with tag rules page etc), but we’re just getting a light mock while we have Mario’s brain re. how it might possibly work

NB. We are all clear that funded features will be prioritised and progressing before this is done, but want to take the moment with @Mario’s brain and also have a clear direction for broader communication
