Software Roadmap 2026

Beginning of September 2026

Hi all, this month we have some pretty exciting achievements and news!

The snapshot

Feature by feature

Tech modernisation

Slowly fixing security issues we are aware of. The related advisories are listed here > Security Advisories

Linked variants - Funded feature (FR) DONE :tada:
Github Milestone | Discourse Thread | Slack channel
Rachel:The hubs that have funded this issue are now testing it. No further budget is allocated to next steps for now, we will share as soon as there are new updates.

DFC 2.0 Upgrade - Funded as part of Connecting Farms to Markets (CA) DONE :tada:
Github Issue | Upgrade Guide
Maikel: This is now done. We have done a bit of tech-debt on the side with AI. The CI builds have become a lot more stable. The failure rate has decreased from 40% to 5%.

Multiple product images - Frontshop uplift (AU)
Github Milestone | Discourse Thread | Slack channel
Thanks to Ahmed, now users can upload and display multiple images for a product. Very soon we’ll be releasing the ability to manage images more in detail, including deleting, adding caption and alt text. You can read more about the full release plan here.

Products grid view - Frontshop uplift (AU)
Github Milestone | Discourse Thread | Slack channel
Gaetan is continuing development, soon we’ll be able to see the list of variants for a product, and view all the details of a product in the grid. In parallel Maikel is also replacing AngularJS in the cart. Mario has been working on pagination and group buy, and will soon move onto facilitating deciding if we want to continue supporting the list view or sunsetting it.

Product pages - Frontshop uplift (AU)
Github Milestone | Slack channel
Maikel has been working on the URL structure for product pages, and is waiting on the UI side so that he can use some of the work that Gaetan is finishing up for listing down the variants available for a product.

Product categories navigation - Frontshop uplift (AU)
Discourse Thread | Slack channel
Rachel and Mario have picked up inception for this again. Will provide more details next month, and hopefully we can start some early delivery work soon.

What’s next?

NEXT UP - Flower Farms (CA + AU)

Slack channel

The Stewardship Circle has suggested utilising the known CA remaining budget + a contribution from the AU budget, for code reviews of PRs by community members. In practice this would mean

  • Theresa, Rachel and Mario to prioritise items for a lean set of features and prepare issues (using budget)

  • Community members would volunteer to pick up those issues. The AI working group might contribute too

  • Code reviews of community PRs for this milestone will be reviewed by core devs (using budget)

  • Testing team will manually test PRs (using budget)

We’ll start the conversation on what to prioritise in the Slack channel.

IN CONSIDERATION - API 1.0

There is momentum on the API side. It was explored during the AI working group, and there’s interest in bringing this topic part of the Roadmap conversation. If you’re interested in this, please join the API slack channel, or reach out to @emilythericky .

Thanks!
