Improve product images display in shop

What is the need / problem

Mary/Shannon need to acquire and retain customers, so they want their shopping experience to be as enjoyable as possible.
We are having various issues with product thumbnail and generally, images today:

  • first if the manager upload a product image that is not square and not exactly in the right format there is a high chance it displays pretty badly in the shop
  • also if you have multiple variants for a product and set up images for variants but not for product the product display without images
  • also there is no default image so some shops are really not good looking when hubs don’t upload images for products
  • also if the images (logo, banner, etc.) are in format .bmp or .jp2 or (maybe others we don’t know yet) they don’t display

Who does it impact

  • Fred: he wants his profile and products to be appealing
  • Mary/Shannon: they want to sell enough Fred’s product to be profitable and sustain their activity on a long term
  • Jane: she wants to have a clear idea of what the product she buys look like > basically most customers are impacted today, not so many shops have all their images fine, etc.

What is the current impact of this problem

  • Shopping experience is not appealing > hubs might loose sales: hubs are potentially loosing sales because the products doesn’t always look appealing

What is the benefit in focusing on this

  • Improving user experience while placing orders
  • More sales for hubs
